IntDaMuS Meeting

Friday 26 June 2015
Starting time 15:00

In the IntDaMuS project, we applied an integrated framework that bridges genetic epidemiology data and methods, with methods of computational biology and bioinformatics. The inter-disciplinary approach that we performed towards the integration of bioinformatics with genetic epidemiology covers a broad area of research, including statistical and mathematical methods, software development, and bioinformatics as well as molecular biology research in order to validate our findings. The research was carried out by an interdisciplinary team of investigators including statisticians and epidemiologists, computer scientists and molecular biologists. All these tasks were oriented towards understanding the molecular basis of complex (multifactorial) diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, coronary heart disease and so on.

The IntDaMus Meeting will take place in June 25, 2015 at the Amphitheatre of School of Science, University of Thessaly, Lamia, Greece. Starting time 15:00. It is intended for senior undergraduate, graduate, master and PhD students in Schools of Science as well as researchers who are interested in genetic epidemiology, computational biology and bioinformatics. The meeting includes the presentation of project's results by the Scientific Coordinator of the project, Pantelis Bagos (Associate Professor, University of Thessaly) and invited talks by experts in the field:
  • Ioannis Michalopoulos, Staff Research Scientist - Associate Professor Level, Biomedical Research Foundation, Academy of Athens.
  • Dimitrios Mavridis, Lecturer, Department of Primary Education, University of Ioannina.
  • Evangelos Evangelou, Assistant Professor, Department of Hygiene and Epidemiology, University of Ioannina School of Medicine.
  • Orestis Efthimiou, Post-Doctoral Research Fellow, Department of Hygiene and Epidemiology, University of Ioannina School of Medicine.
  • Nestoras Karathanasis, Post-Doctoral Research Fellow, Institute of Computer Science, Foundation for Research and Technology, Hellas.
