Applications from UK/EU citizens are invited for a number of PhD studentships in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Lancaster University, UK.

We currently have a 3 year PhD studentship, called Faculty Postgraduate Studentship available in Statistics/Probability. This pays full tuition fees plus maintenance fee of approx. £15,000 per annum (tax free) for UK/EU students.

We have another studentship from NIHR (National Institute for Health

Research) for UK/EU students for working in a specific project entitled `Use of established biomarkers to inform clinical trials design

for new patient populations or conditions' under the supervision of Dr

Thomas Jaki; visit the website

The deadline for COMPLETED applications for the above studentships is 25 February, 2011.

We also have a number of PhD studentships available in Statistics, Probability and Pure Mathematics from the UK Research Councils. These full studentships pay tuition fees plus a stipend for the length of the PhD. Stipend values are approx. £15,000 per annum (tax free). For non-UK but EU citizens, the studentship pays tuition only. The deadline for COMPLETED applications (including letters of references) is 6 May, 2011. Standard Research Council eligibility criteria apply.

As one of the UK's most successful statistics groups, the department contains a broad range of interests including Applied Probability, Bayesian and Computational Statistics, Time Series and Extremes, Social Statistics, Medical and Pharmaceutical Statistics. We welcome applications in any of these areas.

The department provides a thriving research environment, with well

over 30 PhD students within Statistics and Probability. It runs an extensive range of postgraduate level courses; it is also a founder member of the UK's Academy for PhD Training in Statistics (APTS) and has the UK's only doctoral training centre specialising in Statistics and Operational Research.
